i just watched A Twist of Fate by the SRT at the esplanade. Although the plot, that revolves around a "gila" family, was rather soap opera-ish and confusing, the whole musical was really hilarious and fun to watch. Their use of broken english and malay as set in the 1930s peranakan household was funny and entertaining. like Ming always mispronouncing her words. inhoritance: inheritance. impeesible or imfeesible or something like that: impossible.. pornography: photography.. ok so that one was just a joke.. heh..Their use of puns were also side-splitting. i remember one which Alice said about Ah See killing chickens: "He must be in a foul mood." wah.. laugh non-stop i tell you.. i guess the best was their comic timing. the characters can "interrupt" each other so precisely that it's funny. they make use of the timings very well, like they know to give the audience time to appreciate the joke / punchline.
Adrian Pang was so funny... especially when he said the "bastard" part. and then later used "celaka" to mean that.. oh and the part he points the gun at the orchestra and goes "stop the music, i don't have time for a solo."
watching the play, i pretty much laughed til i teared.. and i rocked so hard in my chair that i knocked my head against the back of the seat at least 3 times. the $30 for the musical was really well worth it. too bad it's the last day of show today cos i would have recommended it for all to watch. well too bad.. your loss.. :p haha...
